I'm going to start this by saying that, technically, per my ability to read letters on an eye chart I'm 20:20 in my post-op eye.
Success !
Next patient !
I'll add that I had a detached retina about ≈ 9 months ago, and a vitrectomy which led to needing cataract surgery.
Further, I'm a relatively young patient for cataract surgery.
I'm sure that for geriatric patients who have lived with presbyopia and slowly progressing cataracts for many years my outcome would be great and a vast improvment.
Also also, I'm aware of and bothered by things that most people seem to somehow not notice or care about so overall I'm not an ideal patient.
All that being said - I'm very disappointed with my outcome.
I spent at least for me a LOT of money ( about $5k ) beyond standard cataract surgery to get a Light Adjustable Lens ( LAL )
I did this because I could reasonably expect to have this lens for at least a few decades and I really care about my vision and subjective experience of the world.
I just got auto-refracted yesterday -1 / +1 ( I don't remember which order / which was the cylinder / which was the spherical component but either way.. definitely not plano ).
Afterwards in the 1/2 manual refraction I came out with closer to ±0.5 though I'd stress that I have zero confidence of that because every time I blink or moisten my eye my vision was a bit different so it's almost a WAG.
Up close I could only read the 20:100 line and distant I COULD ( with some effort and interpolation and struggle ) make out the 20:20 line.
As I write this though I can tell. you that what I see isn't 20:100 out of my right eye but one brighter / clear image that I could almost read.. were it not for a ghost image below and a bit to the right that is interfering enough with the clearer image that it's hard to read anything.
If I look at a stoplight or the moon I see the actual image and then a ghost image below and to the right which - AGAIN makes the almost clear image blurry and difficult to appreciate.
Everything is like that.
It's been like that since my cataract surgery and last LAL adjustment.
